Beatles Unlimited history

Beatles Unlimited does have a long story as you all may know.
We found old magazines and blog on wordpress. So, if you want to dive in our history.

Here a little history.

The publication was founded in March/April 1975 by "The Beatles Work Group," by Eric Bakker, a news and information committee established by the "Dutch Beatles Fanclub," which had already been founded on November 10, 1963. Initially, the magazine was called Beatles Unlimited: An Independent Bimonthly for the Fans of John, Paul, George and Ringo. However, starting with issue 130 in November 1996, the name changed to Beatles Unlimited Magazine, or BU Magazine for short. It was never a fanzine featuring letters and the distribution of memorabilia; instead, its content was characterized by investigative journalism, reviews, historical articles, interviews, and news. In addition to interviews, Beatles-related articles, and tour reports, the magazine featured a number of regular sections: Newsdesk, Streettalk, Ditz' Column (featuring presentations of new Beatles and related releases on CD and DVD), Booklook, Cover Corner, and Dig It (featuring tables of contents and commentary on various bootleg releases of the Beatles as a group and as solo artists). With its varied content and international perspective, BU Magazine soon managed to surpass the highly regarded British Beatles magazine The Beatles Monthly Book, which ceased publication in 2001.

The English-language edition was the most important, but there were also parallel editions in German and Dutch. Six issues were published per year. In total, 204 issues of "BU Magazine" were published before the magazine ceased publication in January 2012. However, both magazines were primarily aimed at specialists and highly dedicated Beatles enthusiasts. For collectors, the magazine kept a rich catalogue of past editions and specially designed folders in blue and red with "Beatles Unlimited" in gold lettering on the spine. After the discontinuation, the websites were removed, and nowadays the magazines appear to be available only via eBay and other online sales and auction channels. The old website, Beatles-Unlimited.com, doesn't exist anymore.

The editor-in-chief of the magazine since the name change to BU Magazine in 1996 was René van Haarlem, after Erik Bakker stapped out..
After years hard working for BU Rene stepped out of the club without any notice. 6 months later we all found out that he didn't pick up his phone or whatsoever. Even in the street he ignored BU people. Later we've heard René died of liver cancer on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
Tom Weel, Johnny Te Lintelo  and Erna Smulder and many others worked years for BU (too many to mention, but 'you know who you are') who dedicated themselves selflessly to BU.

Max Bokking was responsible for the facebook, at that moment and all kinds of social media actions.  He went on with the BU on the internet.  But now it's time to restart the website with the old guys and girls. Let's toast to a new life for The Beatles Unlimited.

Max.
